My Journey
From a Tier-3 College in Kolkata to Building Products People Use

My name is Akash Verma and I come from Kolkata, India. I started my career after graduating from a Tier-3 college with a specialization in Data Science. At that time, I did not know exactly where this journey would take me.
During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, I got an opportunity to work with a startup. This gave me my first meaningful exposure to the real technology industry. I was able to contribute significantly to building that startup from 0 to 1.
That experience changed the way I looked at technology and careers.
Instead of restricting myself to one domain, I continued exploring different areas — Data, Data Science, Product Analytics, Product Engineering, AI Applications, and AI and emerging technologies.
Over the years, this journey has given me 6+ years of experience working across Data, Product and AI engineering. I have also taught multiple students across India and the United States through EdTech startups and platforms — teaching AI, Data Science and Product Engineering.

The Turning Point
“The hardest part wasn't finding information. It was knowing which information mattered.”
During my own learning journey, one of the biggest challenges I faced was not the lack of information. Information was everywhere. The problem was direction.
There was often no one who could understand my interests, help me evaluate whether I was moving in the right direction, tell me what skills were actually relevant to industry, or help me understand what I should learn next. Online videos and tutorials were useful, but most of them provided generic knowledge. They often answered “how do I learn this?” — but rarely answered the questions that actually mattered.
I had to figure out most of these things on my own.

What Teaching Taught Me
It Wasn't Just My Problem
Teaching students gave me another perspective. While teaching students across India and the US, I repeatedly saw similar problems. Many students were willing to learn but struggled with the same things I once struggled with. This helped me realize the problem was much bigger than my own experience.
The Bigger Picture
There Is No Shortage of Talent in India
There is no shortage of talented and ambitious students in India. The challenge is access to high-quality, practical and affordable education. Many programs charge students lakhs of rupees, and yet students can still finish those programs without strong fundamentals, practical confidence or meaningful individual guidance.

I don't want a student to spend months learning something without knowing why.
I don't want students to watch hundreds of tutorials without building anything meaningful.
I don't want students to pay huge amounts and still feel lost.
I don't want students to feel that their college background determines their future.
I don't want students to be afraid to ask questions.
I don't want students to learn technology without understanding where it is actually used.
I don't want students to feel alone while trying to figure out their careers.
I experienced some of these challenges myself. Skilluron exists to make that journey different for someone else.
